    • I have had my Capri for the last years. Due to importation problems, I have not been able to get the spares to keep in top shape. However I enjoy driving it more than my newer Corolla.Currently I am getting mechanics to improve it incrementally. My thanks to Haynes Publishing for putting me onto this Club

    • Brilliant to see so many Capri nuts out there in Capri land especially in the West Midlands. I've owned my Capri for 3 years and it still gives me an adrenalin rush every time i get behind the wheel! This car is part of motoring history and deserves to be driven and seen at every opportunity. Was there ever a more sexy car built than the Ford Capri (especially that long flowing bonnet). Long live the Capri and all who drive her.

    • Hi My father's car was a 2L for Capri Ghia which I got when he died. he didn't leave much for me and I was deeply upset when one day I was coerced into "scrapping" it as par of a new car deal. After taking it to be "scrapped" I then was stitched up in the deal when it came to buying the new car and I ended up with no new car, and no Capri. going back to the scrap yard didn't help as they had no record of having it. This was about 10 years ago and I have long since chalked it up to experience, but recently I discovered that the car was not scrapped and in fact is still being driven around on the roads. I am hoping that someone here will be able to let me know how I can get started in tracking down the car for me. Ideally I'd like to buy it back, or the number plate, because of the sentimental value it has for me. Can anyone help or offer some advice? R

    • nice site well laid out, enjoyed the pics of your fine machines, mine is currently under the panel beaters hammer but ready for re-spray. The modifications to mine are 4 branch 2" sports system, K&N air filter, 15" alloys, Sony CD player (sorry yes i cut my dash and parcel shelf) JVC 9x4 speakers, genuine "fake walnut dash" with white dials. This is the 2nd Capri i have owned, my 1st was a 1600 Mk 3 Laser that had had 1 owner from new and a full service history ... unfortunately the garage that done all the service work wasn't up to the job and it was in a real poor state when i had it given to me.

I found the picture in a late 1970's Magazine. The next model up had 2 extra flaps in the middle to be able to trim the air.

After years of being ripped off by the price of lead replacement fuel for my 2.0GL Capri, I had the Firepower Car Pill recommended to me by a mate in Australia (WWW.FIREPOWERPILL.COM). I have now been using it for 2 years and my car runs beautifully on normal unleaded with 1 pill added when I re-fill the tank. Believe it or not it has also increased the economy of my car by about 15% as well as reducing my emissions by around 60%! If it doesn't meet these targets than you can just get your money back - that's how confident they are.  I recommend it to your members.
Best Regards  David Booth

Hello to the Ford Capri Club from Oz. (Australia)

I have been surfing around a little whilst on my search for the ultimate parts for my Datsun 1600 (I think they were labled either the Bluebird or P510 in the UK).

To cut a long story short, I stumbled upon a phunkie snap of a Capri, or at least I think it is (twin lamps, snarling bonnet and upturned 'C' pillar to meet the roofline).

As finding original racing history, or any history for that matter muses me, I thought I might send this snap to someone who would appreciate it.

http://www.barchetta.cc/german/pirro/Galleries.Eventi/Schlegelmilch/B_25.htm

P.S. Datto's reign king downunder!! Though there is a couple of 3.0L GT's threatening the title.....

If possible can you please include this event in your club newsletter / magazine, or pass
around at club meetings. Additionally at the end of this text there is information on
the campaign to get the 25 year old vehicle rolling road tax exemption scheme reinstated and
also to get the LPG rebate scheme extended to cover classic vehicles.  Publicity is the
bottleneck in the campaign at the moment, so I urge you to get as many members to sign in
as possible.  Many thanks.

Hi there.

I'm looking for a project car (my wife has finally agreed!) and am
interested in perhaps finding a Capri to learn restoration on. Obviously I
don't want to pay loads (actually I'd like to pay nothing!), and I found
your site on the web so looked through the classifieds.

Can I suggest that you change the Colour for the email links? The blue
writing on black background is very hard to read! (I realized it was the
email link when I clicked it to see what happened!)

Also, could you put a date on the adverts or indicate that the item is sold
in some way? I don't want to make a nuisance of myself calling people who
have already sold items..

  • Hi guys, Just surfing the net and came across your website ( good pics of my favorite British car ) Doing well in Canada, still working but fear of layoffs still looms but life goes on I guess. In the 2 years of living here I've only seen one Capri. It was a MK11,red in Colour and looked in good shape. It took a while to get used to driving on the other side of the road but we both passed our driving tests 1st time. The car we have right now is made by Chrysler, our previous car was a Honda Civic, great on gas ( petrol ) but rather small. I had to give my old Laser away to my cousin in Ireland although he does take care of it. Anyway, may the " LEGEND ' live or at least till all the spares have been used up, just joking. Take care, say Hi to all those Capri nuts for me and maybe you guys can email us sometime Carl.

Right, gripe over! My daily driver is the 2.0 laser which is not in too bad a condition, the mk1 used to be on the show scene a few years ago, but is laid up at my folks place and awaiting a full re-build ( with a V8! I will undertake all the work myself ) the 3.0s is almost completed and will replace the laser ( to make way for the mk1 ) I hope to get back on the show scene in the near future and I look forward to seeing some of the cars from the gallery in the metal-so to speak! cheers for now, Rich.

Keep the flag flying and thanks for all the effort put into the site. (if the HPI bomb's do you allow Audi's ??).

  • I have visited many sites about the Capri I have owned a few in the past) but yours has been a pleasure to view. My brother in law (who has just put a Cosworths into a MK1!)was very impressed also. Excellent site.

  • Nice friendly site, keep up the good work. Glad to see the enthusiasm for Capri's still exists. All the cheap jibes about image now apply to other makes which leaves us in peace to appreciate our real classics!

  • Just browsing through Capri related stuff on my lunch break, I have always been a big fan of the Capri ( and mk1 Escorts! ) It is good that so many people are restoring the older cars, the only down side are certain unscrupulous people cashing in on this by hiking prices of spares. Right, gripe over! My daily driver is the 2.0 laser which is not in too bad a condition, the mk1 used to be on the show scene a few years ago, but is laid up at my folks place and awaiting a full re-build ( with a V8! I will undertake all the work myself ) the 3.0s is almost completed and will replace the laser ( to make way for the mk1 ) I hope to get back on the show scene in the near future and I look forward to seeing some of the cars from the gallery in the metal-so to speak! cheers for now, Rich.

history
  • I believe this car to have been imported second hand from England in the early 70's from the NZ registration books that were in the car when purchased. This car was originally purchased be my girl friend some 6 years ago, she did some body restoration work and the became tired with owning an old car, trading it in on a japer. I purchased the car some 2 years ago and set about restoring the car again, only to find the all the work my girl friend had had done was of very poor quality. The car is currently in the process of restoration / modification. The Kent 1600 has been remove after self destruction and has been replaced with a `92 Nissan 2000, turbo changed, fuel injected, double overhead cam engine. This is about the easiest way to archive a Capri Cosworths style car with incurring the debt of a small pacific island nation. The engine is in and running. The current stage of the project is suspension and brake upgrading. The interior and body work will remain as Ford intended back in `69. The perfect stocker!!

Hello Isabel,    We were both surprised to read the letter that was sent to Mark Smith regarding the disbanding of the Mid Warwickshire CCI group.  The Mid Warwickshire branch have for many years been one of the more active branches  I hope the chairman of CCI can fill the space      We know this will not stop both yourself and Roy enjoying the car's in any way.

story
  • Purchased this week from Bairnsdale in Victoria, some 280 kilometers from Melbourne, where I live. She is an Australian version 3000 GT Automatic fitted with Smiths Aircon and is in 99% complete condition. I paid $1200 AUD for it then $150 AUD to transport it form Bairnsdale to Melbourne. I plan to restore her to her original state. She has just over 90000 miles on the clock which I feel is probably original. For the past 6 years she has sat around back yards waiting for some new life to be installed into her. Well, that day has come! I now little else about her except to say that she started life in Geelong, the Home of the Ford Engine plant in Australia. Further information is to say the least, scant. the restoration is planned to take about 2 years, I'm in no hurry, YET!!! Regards, Tel (remember MINDER)

I have this week bought my first Capri being the ripe old age of 47!! It is 99% complete and running, though unregistered and in need of some good TLC to bring it back from where its been. She is a 3000GT Automatic and started life as a Silver car but alas is now Green. I plan to restore it to its original condition over the next couple of years, then use it as a weekend "cruiser"! Would love to here from other like minded Capri lovers.
I was a member some years ago and I sometimes have the opportunity of driving a Capri. The bug is still with me. So can someone help source a suitable car: Must be a 2.8i special Must be White Must be solid with a recent MOT Service History would be good but proof of work done would be better. Thanks for the Capri Page, I look forward to a reply. Chris

Barrie Papworth Market Harborough Leicestershire I have been browsing the web for Capri sites during my lunch time and have been very encouraged that there is so much enthusiasm for the Capri. I have owned a white 1979 1.6 GL for around 10 years and have enjoyed driving and tinkering around with it. Unfortunately last February someone bumped the rear offside wheelarch while it was parked on Kettering Hospital car park. At the time of the bump I was on the maternity ward with my wife who had a bump as well but hers meta-morphasised into our son!! The arrival of our son has meant that I have had no time to rectifiy the damage even though I do have wheel arch replacement panels which would repair the damage. There are also a number of other jobs which really need to be done to the Capri's paintwork to make it look presentable. Some weeks ago I took the decision to take it off the road when the MOT ran out and in the meantime look round for a replacement. I am a member of CCI and in the June mag. I found an absolutely fabulous example of a 1986 1.6 Laser in Lacquer Red for sale in Cambridgeshire. Being an engineer I am fortunate in being able to tackle virtually any job on the Capri but when it comes to welding I am a bit out of practice. Therefore my prime concern was to find a replacement Capri with good bodywork. The Laser I found met this criteria superbly. Since owning the car I have undertaken a number of jobs including replacing the back springs. The car was for sale for £699 but I shaved off £30 because the tyres were nearing the end of their life. I was aware that Kwik fit had an offer on at the time for 4 tyres for £65, so I was not too concerned. The owner was well aware of the excellent condition of the bodywork so would not reduce the asking price any further. I have probably rattled on too much already so I will close this particular message.

    • I bought this Capri three days ago in Bremerton, Washington, USA. Some minor issues, but it still goes pretty good. Trying to decide what exactly I'm going to do to it. My parents bought a Mk.1 (facelift) in 1973 in Pennsylvania and owned it until 1979. By that time, that Capri had moved our household five times all across the eastern United States. This,, is a fabulous testament to a fabulous car. Cheers!

Its unique because their are so few Capris around which makes it even better. Its also the only Capri in the states or at least this area that has "North Shore Garage" decal on it. The car is very reliable and lots of fun to drive. The person who needs his parcel shelf fixed should contact me because I think I may have something he could use.

Saw the website in the  mag and thought I'd let you know how lucky you all were where so many Capris and so many spares abounded! I am interested in communicating with anyone into V8 Capris (preferably Ford - whoever heard of a Chev in one of our beloved Fords? Dont you'all know about the close to civil war situation states side re the Ford/Chev debate?) My Perana is in rebuild at the moment - so am into the intimate details of how they were done. Thank you for your interesting website.

Also are there two different water pumps fitted ? My replacement sems to run at two much pressure. Any ideas or suggested contacts, references would be a great help. Thanx

The Car is a 1.6 GT, Mk2, bought in 1974 and was registered as GDW 300N, it was Daytona Yellow with a black Vinyl roof and the inteirior was also black. It was sold at Slaters of Abergele in 1978. If any of your members have owned the car at anytime or currently own the Capri, I would be greatfull if you would contact me at ger@intt.freeserve.co.uk
